In March, along with four supervisors and a class of 23 students, I traveled to Maui, Hawai’i, for two weeks to conduct research, interview and collaborate with locals for a 6-page feature story, Mа̄lama Maui: The Land We Hold, about the revival of traditional Native Hawaiian practices in a place deeply shaped by colonization and tourism.

In 2010,  the UNC School of Medicine’s Office of Research saw a need to offer geriatric- and aging-related training and research to medical students. 16 years later, their solution — the Medical Student Training in Aging Research Program — has expanded to provide opportunities to more than twice  the number of students it could at the time of its founding.
